Furthermore, it seems clear that many truths are incompatible with people’s desires, and many falsehoods conform to what people want. Therefore, Rorty’s ways of talking about truth do not help to show that premise 2 is true. Perhaps the only way left for a proponent of premise 2 to claim that it is true is to fall back on simple relativism and just say that premise 2 is true for that person (even if not for others).
